Once again, this year, the most important international nautical competition focused on innovation and sustainability in the world of yachting was held, organized by the iconic Yacht Club of Monte Carlo. For almost a week, the basin in front of the Principality became the racing field for boats exclusively powered by green propulsion.
In this eleventh edition, the Open Sea Class topped the ranking of the 33 participants, who competed in various challenges, including the endurance test, maneuverability test, speed record, and the 16-nautical-mile speed trial.
The Sealence team also took part in the electric showcase, contributing to the demonstration that significant progress has been made in the world of sustainable yachting.
For instance, our SeaLAB#5 stood out in the Endurance race, covering 24 miles at an average speed of over 21 knots, with peaks of 32 knots, returning to port with a good battery safety margin of 8%, well above the average of other boats between 6 and 8 knots. This proved that sustainable boating does not mean having to give up the thrills of sporty driving.
There were some unforeseen events, such as a defective connector in the cooling system during the 16-nautical-mile race, which forced us to withdraw just when we were sailing at a speed of 35 knots, leading the other boats that we had overtaken in the first few meters of the race, despite starting last behind the other teams. It was a difficult moment, a tough decision, but a necessary one.
But this is part of the game.
We still took home the thrill of a wonderful experience and the awareness that we gave our best.
